Picture
Some things you can think/write about:

What's happening here?
Who is the man?
What is the curved entity?
Where is this?

Now, write a story about this picture.

so what i think is happening is this old man is standing on a bridge made of glass. And there is some sort of sucktion device hanging above his head. When big fishes swim under it, it creates a force of air so strong that it can pick the man up and suck him through the tube. The man that is standing next to the object is an older verson of Jim Carry. The purpose of the curved object is for fishes to suck up people and eat them. This picture was taken in seattle Washington.

Jaron,
Thanks for your thoughts. Now, take those details you created and tell a story. Why is the bridge made of glass? Who created this object? Why? And why did you choose Jim Carrey as your character?

When I see this it makes me think of something.. Dr. Seuss-esk. Since it's black and white I feel like its a reminiscent photo and because he is and old man I think he is revisiting a place where he once was at an earlier time in life. If I had to write a story on it it would be something about how he is from Whoville and after long years of fighting to get back home he sees that it has been destroyed and all that is left is one relic. He feels sad because all of his fondest memories are here.. but yet calm due to the fact that nature has run its course and the beauty of the scenery is somehow relieving his pain.

Bethany,
That's a great idea! Write the story, or at least the beginning of the story, as an entry on this blog (which is the point of the prompt)! Thanks!

Many many years ago there was a young man named Henry. Henry loved to play in the ocean and listen to the waves and just take in the surroundings. One day while playing at the beach henry was ripped out into the sea and the pressure from the water damaged his ears and he couldn't hear his beloved ocean so his mom and dad built him a device to listen to the ocean and every day he goes to the dock to be with his ocean again. And he continues to go every single day until he dies.

Joey,
I like this idea. Totally fits the picture - that thing does look like a giant ear horn. I'm curious though, how long does he live? How does he die? This could be a great story.

To me... The picture takes place in side the old man's mind, the old man represents us, the curved entity is like the unknown because sometimes we arn't even aware that it is there, and what is happening is that in reality we sometimes have a paranoia that something is following us, so this is a representation of that in our mind.

Story: Last Week while walking home I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching me,even though every time I turned around nothing was there. I had a hard time sleeping too, I kept having a strange dream where I was an old man and I was followed by a strange, black, shell-like creature who was either watching or listening to me. The next day while walking home I actually saw a little boy following me...

Continue it, or not

Thanks, Tom. I would be interested in knowing more about your story. How would you feel about adding more yourself? Where does the story go, in your mind, from here?

To me it looks like a speaking tube an old fashioned hearing aide, and it looks like it's blasting sound onto the old man on the dock from the ocean. It looks like it's at somewhere in Europe like France.
Story:When I was young spry bean pole of a man I was very keen on creating something. One thing that would stand forever and that I would be remembered for. My younger sister Marina was named after the Marina which we lived on in France she was deaf and had never heard the ocean and so desired to. We bought her a fancy speaking tube but she could not even hear our younger brother whaling terrible sounding notes from his trumpet into her speaking tube. Then I knew what I had to do I went to work on creating a giant speaking tube on the dock of the marina so my sister Marina could finally hear the ocean.
It took 5 years of attempt and fail and low funds to finally create it we took Marina to the dock. Put her in front of the mammoth sized speaking tube and she was able to hear the ocean at last. For so many years she came to the dock and spent hours sitting there listening to the ocean. Listening to it move, and roar, and tumble upon the rocks and even being able to hear the foam settle and bubble. And that speaking tube withstood all the years even up to now when we are both old and gray.

Thanks, Claire. I like the imagery of the foam settling. You and Joey should collaborate your stories.

As 85 year old Edward Leonardo was walking home from the funeral of his now dead wife Ellen Leonardo, whom he was married too for 65 years, he decided to walk a different path and go up too the stone cliff in his hometown of Boise, Idaho, a place they used to go together. He could hear the splashing and excitement of the ocean, 250 feet below him. Behind him was the town warning siren. Whenever theres a town fire, earthquake, tsunami or any other natural disaster, the siren goes off to warn the town of hazardous danger.
The pain in his gray eyes was worse than any pain he had ever imagined. He cursed at the wind as cold, wet tears poured down his pale, wrinkled face. He couldnt bear the loss. He was falling apart. As he was about to crash to the hard, coarse ground, the siren started screaming and going crazy like a police dog with rabies. Edwards heart, beating like a fish out of water. His face, turning the color of a chickens egg. He collapsed and as his not-so-close family was informed, he died right then and there of a heart attack and broken heart syndrome. When they found him on top of the stone cliff, he had a picture of Ellen in his hand and an old locket she had given him long ago..

this picture could have many stories. it just depend on what you perceive in this particular scenery. when i see it i think, once there was a man who had always felt lonely. he was never married and never planned on it. one day he got tired of feeling lonesome that he decided to make something that he could talk to. he made this machine to talk to but as all to fell hovered by it, as if someone was walking next to him.

This reminds me of those echoing microphones at the park. Those ones where you talk in one end and your friend stands and listens at the other. Maybe this guy has one in his back yard and there are others all over the world. Belonging to people of a secret group, passing secret messages so no one else will hear.
